The Ugg Boot Fashion Statement: Where Did It Come From?
Written by stevehuna on May 22, 2009When will this next fashion craze ever end? Has it even peaked? If you have to ask what they are, then you are either a male or not associated with the fashion industry. From a faraway land, a man came to the US with booties for surfers. For those who have never seen or held an Ugg boot in their hand, they can best be described as a piece of sheepskin, having a look a feel very similar to suede, and a furry sheep’s wool on the other side. Piece a bunch of parts together like a puzzle into the shape of a boot or bootie, put a very lightweight thin piece of rubber on the bottom, and voila, you have genuine, ugg boots, cheap.
Well, it’s really not as simple as that, they are only made in Australia, and the manufacturing process is quite complicated. Their original intent was to keep a surfer’s feet warm when they got out of the water from surfing and were hanging out on the beach. I know what you’re thinking, who cares about surfer’s and their feet. And you shouldn’t, but no one, I don’t even think the manufacturer, even expected the explosive demand that has occurred in this decade.
This explosion was due in part to Oprah Winfrey. Yes, if Oprah puts her stamp of approval on it, then it becomes an instant success, no matter what. Oprah was so impressed by the comfort and the feel of the boots she bought her entire staff a pair for each of them. I’d rather have the cars she was giving out, but after she wore them and endorsed them on her show a few times, women took notice, and as a result, had to have them also.
Ugg Brand Boots will come with several cons, however. For one thing, you can’t get them wet or the sheepskin on the outside will stain. Now I know what you are thinking, what good is a boot if I can’t get it wet? Well, most users only wear them for fashion and don’t wear them on rainy days. The woolskin boots fashion statement is a strong one worldwide now, and there are a lot of people who want them to just look cool, regardless if they’re feet get wet or not. When will this fashion statement peak? Who knows, but everything eventually does.
