Recently I had a wonderful day, and not because it was nice outside, just the opposite in fact. My wife, of 12 years is perhaps the greatest thing that’s ever happened to me, and it’s because she’s right with just about everything. I’m a builder in the upper peninsula of the great state of Michigan and as anybody who lives here can tell you, the winter months can be bitter cold. Now general contracting work does slow in the winter season, but I do have my share of inside work from all sorts of households that keeps money flowing in.

Recently I was fixing a leak on the inside of a foyer ceiling for a customer when I realized that in order to trace where the leak was originating, I was going to have to not only go outside, but get on the roof as well. Needless to say there was already a foot of snow on the ground and on the roof. Normally I wouldn’t chance such a thing, but this poor lady had water ruining her walls and gathering in the middle of her hallway.

Now, here’s the part where my wife is always right, this was just after the holiday season and one of the gifts she gave me was a pair of rubber boots, Muck Boots Hoser Classics to be specific. They looked like really nice pair of “rubber boots” to me, but I’m outside working on my feet all day long, how long is a pair of rubber boots going to last me? And these aren’t the kind that slip over your existing work boots; they are the boots, rubber, soles, waterproof, etc….. All rolled into one fairly nice package.

So before I went on this roof, I grabbed this new pair of waterproof rubber boots from the van and put them on, I figured since they are new, they should have some good traction. I will never wear a pair of leather work boots out in the elements again. I am pretty much set in my ways, I didn’t think anything made of rubber was going to give me the support or protect my feet the way my trusty old boots always have, but now I know better.

What I didn’t know was that my wife knows what I need to do my job better than I do. A genuine pair of Muck Boots, apparently they are high quality rubber waterproof boots, not the kind you’d find at Walmart or Target, but something that appears to me like it’s going to last me for years. Yep, that’s her, looking after me even when I’m away at work, and it’s nice to know, because she wants me back home every evening.
