Insn’t It Bittersweet Being A Parent?
Written by stevehuna on July 3, 2009It is common knowledge that raising kids is a challenging activity. A parent, from the very beginning, realizes their own necessities (eating and sleeping especially) are secondary to the ones of their child. Adjustments are going to keep happening the next eighteen to thirty years. During your main parenting period you may not feel the full benefit of your efforts, but watching your child move out as a balanced individual is a remarkable feeling.
You will not always find the black and white of parenting, you have to deal with a lot of grey. History shows us that what we do today will change tomorrow, so anticipate change occurring before you children have grown. The following sections outline a few general ideas to incorporate into parenting to assist you with your parenting goals.
Make Learning Fun
Everyone likes to have a good laugh. Making learning fun for you and your kids can lead them into a lifetime of learning which helps them make good choices. A parent needs to stretch their own imagination when finding an amusing activity, but keep in mind, it is meant to be fun only, and focusing on a perfect result may not get you quite what you need.
Work Smarter, Not harder
Parents need to examine different work opportunities in order to be a financially contributing member of the family. Parents still need to be able to spend time with the kids, so looking into alternative income sources is important. Some alternative work styles include starting your own business, working part-time, or working at home.
Individual Time
Parents need time to be alone, whether single or dual, parents need a night off now and then. Recreation groups and classes are good places for adults to make a mini-vacation. A break away from the kids gives parents the opportunity to reflect on just how wonderful family life is. Your perspective will widen to appreciate your unique family once you rejoin the other members.
Adding to your parenting bag of tricks will happen frequently. Having an ideal parenting strategy is great, but you want to ensure you can modify it as your family needs change. Parenting is another ever-changing growth process. f you make a change or a different choice in parenting, it is a good plan to write it down. Having a family parenting diary will prevent you from repeating the same mistakes.
Relax with parenting and enjoy it. Finding unexplored information with your children will help you both learn. If the people who raised you could do it, then you can do it too!
